Origins of Whidbey Wood Store
In the early 2000s Jeff Daughtery purchased a small sawmill with the goal of building and siding structures on his property. As time passed he found a local market for his wood and began expanding beyond utility woods like Fir and Cedar into live edge slabs, cookies, and other decorative woods. Eventually sawmilling became his full time occupation and Whidbey Woodworks was born.
In 2020 Ty Balascio began the plans for his own woodworking venture and coordinated the business downstream of Whidbey Woodworks. Ty’s plans included vacuum kiln drying, slab surfacing, and furniture making. In early 2021 he opened Coastal Woodworks.
Both businesses complimented each other very well, and often Jeff and Ty would partner on log purchases or work that required more hands. It was only natural that their talents would combine to offer dried & surfaced Whidbey Island wood to the community and internet. Thus, Whidbey Wood Store was born.
Why choose us:
- Nearly all wood is sourced from Whidbey Island windfallen or at-risk trees
- All wood is professionally milled, dried, and surfaced. Ready for your project.
- Wood has a story. These trees sheltered farm animals, served as swings for generations of children, and blessed the Island's landscape for decades. Its our responsibility to give them a second life whenever possible.
